Glenn S. Welch| President and CEO
Glenn joined Freedom Credit Union in 2016 and has over 30 years of experience in the Financial Services industry. He was President and CEO of Hampden Bank from 2013-2015 before the Berkshire Bank acquisition and was employed at Hampden Bank for 17 years. Glenn is a graduate of Western New England University and earned his MBA from the University of Massachusetts. He is currently active on many boards throughout the Pioneer Valley, including Way Finders, Pathlight, the Business School Advisory Board at WNEU, Develop Springfield, and Springfield Business Leaders for Education.
Louis “Jay” Scungio | Senior Vice President and CFO
Jay joined the credit union in 1999 as the CFO and currently oversees the Accounting, Compliance, and Facilities functions of the credit union. He has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Jay earned both his bachelor's degree and his MBA from Western New England College. He is a Board Member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County.
Gina Noblit Giannetti | Director, Human Resources
Gina joined Freedom in 2016 and manages all human resource activities for the credit union. Gina has over 31 years of HR experience in both healthcare and manufacturing. She comes to Freedom from Baystate Health where she was a Senior Human Resources Consultant. Gina earned her master’s degree in Human Resource Technology from American International College and her bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University. Gina has also just earned her Credit Union HR Compliance Professional certification in August 2017.
Kara B. Herman | Vice President, Retail Administration
Kara joined Freedom in 2007 and has over 25 years of banking and credit union experience. She oversees the administration of the credit union’s ten branches as well as the Marketing and Business Development departments. In 2013, she earned her Certified Credit Union Executive designation through the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Kara has a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College and is a certified trainer through the American Society for Training and Development. She is a Board Member of the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Massachusetts Credit Union League.
Cheryl L. Podgorski | Vice President, Operations
Cheryl joined the credit union in 2012 and has over 30 years of operations experience in both the Banking and Credit Union industries, having held several senior management positions throughout her career. Cheryl manages the credit union’s Information Systems, Vendor Management, and Operations Departments including Call Center, Deposit Services, Loan Servicing and Electronic Services. She earned her master’s degree in Business Administration from Western New England College and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Cheryl is a past Certified Treasury Professional through the Association for Financial Professionals. She is the Board Treasurer for the Bilingual Veterans Outreach Center in Springfield.
Jeffrey M. Smith | Vice President and CLO
Jeff joined the credit union in 2013 and manages the Commercial, Mortgage and Consumer Lending functions of the credit union. He has over 30 years of lending experience in the Financial Services industry and has held several senior management positions throughout his career. Jeff earned his MBA in Finance from Western New England University. He is a Board Member of the Northampton Rotary Club and is a member of the Realtor Association of Pioneer Valley. Since 1994, Jeff has been an instructor for the Center for Financial Training teaching courses on subjects such as real estate finance, marketing, accounting and analyzing financial statements.
