Please Donate to Our Book Drive this April

Throughout the month of April, we invite you to participate in our children’s book drive to benefit area children.

In conjunction with the Cooperative Credit Union Association, we are collecting children’s books through Monday, April 30 for distribution to several nonprofit agencies throughout the Pioneer Valley. Last year, 40 credit unions in Massachusetts collected over 16,000 books.

We encourage you to drop off your donation of new and gently used children’s books at any of our ten branch locations in Springfield, Chicopee, Easthampton, Feeding Hills, Greenfield, Ludlow, Northampton, Turners Falls or at the branch located within the Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy in Springfield.

7 Benefits of Reading for Children

We are excited to participate in this book drive because we recognize that books and reading offer many benefits for children including:

  1. Giving them a head start and preparing them for school and the future
  2. Helping them develop and hone their language skills and vocabulary
  3. Enhancing their concentration and attention spans
  4. Developing their imagination and creativity
  5. Increasing their knowledge base about a range of topics
  6. Teaching them empathy by exposing them to the feelings and circumstances of others
  7. Providing connections with parents while they are young and with peer groups when they are older

This book drive celebrates the value of reading by providing thousands of books that help children open their imaginations and become inspired. We hope our members and the whole community will help children in western Massachusetts by donating to this effort.
