The higher college costs get, the harder we work to help students rise to meet them—and achieve their well-deserved dreams.
The idea of exorbitant costs keeping an ambitious, hard-working individual from a quality education flies in the face of everything we value here at Freedom Credit Union. That’s why we’re proud to partner with students and families on a range of ways to manage educational expenses.
“We believe that everyone, whether a young student or an adult who wants to continue their education, should have the chance to explore all opportunities,” said our president and CEO, Glenn Welch. “The products we offer and the comprehensive, expert guidance we provide are reflections of that belief.”
Honoring our commitment to helping students build their own educational savings and use earnings wisely, Freedom offers a special NOW checking account called the Forever Freedom account. Benefits include no ATM fees, reimbursement of ATM fees from other banks (up to $15/month), and free “forgive-a-pay” twice per year with Member Privilege.
Perhaps best of all, a Forever Freedom account will not expire after the student graduates. Students receive these unbeatable benefits as long as the account is active, which makes for a priceless bonus: added peace of mind during one of life’s busiest times.
As students save for college, Welch and other experts advise them to:
- Establish a specific goal, such as attending a chosen school or borrowing no more than a certain amount.
- Put aside (for example, into a savings account) a set percentage of money on a regular schedule or each time it’s earned.
- Make savings automatic by setting up direct deposit of paychecks. Most employers offer this, including an option to divide the total pay into two or more designated accounts.
- Choose the best type of account and/or product for your needs, considering terms, rates and growth potential.
Also among Freedom’s offerings is our student loan program, strategically designed to help cover those gaps commonly left by insufficient federal loans, grants and other types of financial aid. In a nation where college tuition continues to skyrocket, we will lend up to $50,000 for tuition, books, fees and room and board at a competitive fixed rate, with terms of 1–5 years or 5–10 years. In addition to college and graduate school, funds are available for qualifying K-12 programs and private post-secondary schools.
Freedom is always here to help students—and anyone—establish a personalized savings system and manage earnings wisely, and to provide ongoing support.
