Freedom Credit Union has a checking account process with two options. Pick the one that works for you. If you want more connections to more benefits, just switch it up when you need.

Requirements for ATM and Cash Back Rewards:

  • Direct deposit of at least $500 each month
  • A minimum of 10 point-of-sale (POS) transactions each month
  • Enrollment in eStatements

We have a simple account option for members age 65 and over or age 18 and younger:

  • No monthly maintenance fees
  • Free Standard Checks
  • Reduced or waived fees on certain services

Notice for members over the age of 65 or under the age of 18

In accordance with Chapter 338 of the Acts of 2020, Section 32B also known as the “18/65 Law,” we do not impose any fee, charge or other assessment against the checking account of any person age 65 or older, or age 18 or younger. However, a reasonable charge, as determined by the Commissioner of Banks, may be assessed against such accounts when payment has been refused due to insufficient funds. Our fee for insufficient funds does not exceed $5.00 per check. Please refer to our separate fee schedule for additional information about charges.

You must notify us of your eligibility to receive these benefits. Please notify the Freedom Credit Union when you open your account(s) if you are in either of these age groups or if you become eligible for fee waivers at any time during your account holding. Eligible persons who have not already registered for this service should contact us by visiting a branch office or by calling us at (413) 739-6961 or toll free at (800) 821-0160.

Member Privilege*

Even when balancing a checkbook, we’ve all experienced times of uncertainty and unexpected happenings. For added security, Freedom offers an overdraft protection service to qualifying members who maintain a personal checking account in good standing.

Member Privilege is accessible through teller transactions, written checks, ACH automatic payments, ATM transactions, and debit transactions. As of July 1, 2010, ATM and debit transactions must be authorized by a member through a written request in a branch.

*Members will be charged a fee of $32 for each overdraft item paid by check, in-person withdrawals, ATM withdrawals or other electronic means. Members must bring their account balance positive within 30 days. Freedom Credit Union may refuse to pay an overdraft item if your account is not in good standing or if we determine you have too many overdrafts or are using the service as a line of credit.
