Donations made to support the Westover Galaxy Community Council will be matched up to $2,500
Throughout the month of November, Freedom Credit Union has been collecting cash donations at all its branches on behalf of the Westover Galaxy Community Council to support military service members and their families at Westover Air Reserve Base (ARB) in Chicopee. To celebrate the National Day of Giving on Tuesday, November 28, Freedom will match the donations made at its branches that day, up to a total of $2,500. Donations made online will also be matched.
“We are grateful to everyone in the community who has donated to date, and we wanted to add a little extra incentive to give the total donation a boost,” said Freedom Credit Union President Glenn Welch. “During the holiday season, it’s especially hard for members of the military to be away from family and loved ones. The Westover Galaxy Community Council works to ease this difficulty by offering special events and resources for military families.”
Formed in 1988 as a committee within the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce and incorporated as an independent organization in 1989, the Westover Galaxy Community Council is an organization made up of veterans, local businesspeople and other citizens who support the men, women and mission of Westover ARB. Within Department of Defense guidelines, Westover Galaxy Community Council raises funds to contribute to events and special needs at Westover ARB, the largest air reserve base in the nation, home to more than 5,500 military and civilian workers.
“If you haven’t had a chance to donate, or if you want to give a little more knowing your donation will be matched, stop by any of our branches on Tuesday, November 28, or donate online at gofundme.com/f/freedom-credit-unions-day-of-giving,” said Welch. “Together, we can make the holidays a little brighter for those who give us so much.”
