Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Looking for quick answers about banking with Freedom Credit Union? We’ve compiled these FAQs to help you get the information you need, fast.

WHAT IS A CREDIT UNION AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A BANK?

+

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned by their members. Unlike banks, which are driven by shareholders and profits, credit unions return earnings to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings yields, and reduced fees.

At Freedom Credit Union, every member has a voice, and our mission is to serve the financial needs of our local community—not Wall Street.

WHO CAN JOIN FREEDOM CREDIT UNION?

+

Freedom Credit Union membership is open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin or Berkshire counties in Massachusetts, and Hartford or Tolland counties in Connecticut. Joining is easy—open a Share Savings Account with a minimum balance of $5 to become a member and start enjoying the benefits of local banking that puts people first.

WHAT SERVICES DOES FREEDOM CREDIT UNION OFFER?
